Oakland-based Our Brother The Native’s newest album Terra Traipse feels like a soundtrack to a low speed exploration of outer space, but its lyrics keep us here tethered to Earth.
Dreamy melodies and playful drums accompanied by words borrowed from confessional poet Sylvia Plath would seem to create conflict, but are woven together nicely here. How the band blends its other-worldly sound with its emotional torn-betweens is quite impressive. I will definitely be checking them out in West Oakland later this month.
